| Tasting Notes: | Port is named for Oporto, a Portuguese city located at the mouth of the Douro River where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean and the place where this smooth, sweet dessert wine was originally made. Our California version is comprised mainly of the grape variety Charbono. Grown on just a handful of acres on California’s North Coast, the Charbono grapes for this wine were sourced from the finest of these vineyards in the upper regions of the Napa Valley, where the hot weather allows the fruit to get good and ripe. The wild and spicy Charbono grape usually produces very dark, acidic red wines with high tannin levels and bright berry aromas and flavors. In the Port tradition, our winemaker arrested fermentation before the yeasts could eat up all the grape sugars, producing a sweet, lusciously complex dessert wine. Ruby red in color, this Port has intriguingly rich fruit flavors layered with notes of chocolate and caramel and a slightly nutty finish. Oak-barrel aging softened the tannins to give the wine a seductive roundness and beguiling texture. |
| Food Pairing: | Men and women alike may enjoy it with a fine cigar. Or serve as a final course with roasted nuts and a cheese plate of strong cheeses like Stilton, Roquefort or Gorgonzola. |
