| Vintage: | 2007 |
| Wine Type: | Red Wine |
| Varietal: | Zinfandel |
| Tasting Notes: | Grapes for this Zin come from Distasio Vineyard, a very old ranch in the Sierra Foothills. Amador Zins tend to be as burly as the old-time prospectors who mined these hills. Gold Country vines, growing in granitic soils with lots of sun exposure, tend to produce thickskinned grapes that make fairly tannic wines. But this one is a little different. Weather drives tannin development, and 2007 was a more benevolent year in the foothills. The 2007 growing season was a moderate one even up in Amador; except for a burst of heat at the end, there were no terrible extremes. So this year’s Amador Zin is a relatively gentle wine, much softer than most years. It’s very drinkable and very tasty, with the classic cherry cola and spice character that defines Amador. Take a sip and taste the mother lode. |
