About This Wine
The grapes for Riserva Ducale come primarily from the vineyards of Ruffino’s Santedame, Montemasso and Gretole Estates, located in the traditional Chianti Classico production area, stretching over the provinces of Siena and Florence.
Wine Profile
Vintage: 2004
Wine Type: Red Wine
Varietal: Sangiovese
Appellation: Italy
Alcohol %: 13
Tasting Notes: 90% Sangiovese, 10% other Chianti Classico red varieties

Ruby red in color, with garnet hues. Aromas of roses, sweet cherries, cocoa and cloves are followed by notes of tobacco and white pepper, creating an elegant, long-lasting bouquet. The wine is smooth, full-bodied and vibrant, with a tightly woven texture of velvety tannins, rich fruit notes and fresh acidity. The refined finish shows essences of wild flowers, rosemary and figs, typical of barrel-aged Chianti Classico wines.

Production Notes: Hand-harvested, Riserva Ducale starts with a careful selection of the best grapes. Characterized by a warm and sunny September that produced well-ripened grapes, the 2004 vintage was a very good year for Sangiovese in Chianti Classico. Picking began in mid-September and ended mid-October. Alcoholic fermentation, aided by racking and punching down, took place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature of 82.4°F for 10 days. Maceration on the skins continued for another 14 days. After completing malolactic fermentation, Riserva Ducale was aged in stainless steel tanks for a brief period and then in 1,056–2,113 gallon (40-80 hl) oak casks for approximately 24 months. After bottling, the wine rested a minimum of three months before release.
Food Pairing: Riserva Ducale is a timeless Tuscan Chianti Classico. Enjoy it with Italian favorites such as prosciutto and other antipasti; porcini and squash risotto; pasta Bolognese; and fennel-encrusted roast pork. Or pair with simple grilled meats and roasted vegetables for a classic meal.
